Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser using the HTML5 canvas. Your images never leave your device.
How do I reduce a photo's file size?
Lower the quality slider and, if the image is larger than you need, set a smaller maximum width or height. For photos, JPG at 70–80% quality usually looks identical at a fraction of the size.
Why did my PNG barely shrink?
PNG is a lossless format, so the quality slider has no effect on it. Resizing is what shrinks a PNG. With Pro you can also convert it to WebP or JPG, which are usually much smaller.
What formats are supported?
JPG, PNG and WebP. Images are never enlarged, only shrunk. If a result would end up larger than the original, you get the original back.
What's the limit on the free tier?
Up to 5 images per batch, quality up to 80%, and output up to 2000 px on the longest side. Pro removes all three limits and adds format conversion for a one-time $9 payment — no subscription.
