Compress an image online, free
Large images slow down websites, bounce off email servers and get rejected by upload forms. This tool shrinks JPG, PNG and WebP files directly in your browser, so your images are never uploaded anywhere.
How to compress an image
- Drop your image onto the compressor, or choose it from your device. Up to 5 at a time on the free plan.
- Set the quality. For photos, 70–80% is the usual sweet spot: the file gets much smaller and the difference is hard to see.
- Optionally set a maximum width or height. Images are only ever shrunk, never enlarged.
- Press Compress, check the before and after sizes, then download.
Which setting for which image
- Photos: keep JPG and lower the quality to 70–80%.
- Screenshots, logos, graphics with sharp edges: keep PNG. PNG is lossless, so quality has no effect; resizing is what makes it smaller.
- Modern websites: WebP is usually smaller than JPG at similar quality. Format conversion is part of Pro.
Why a file sometimes barely shrinks
If an image was already well compressed, there is little left to remove. When the result would end up larger than the original, the tool hands you the original back and labels it “already optimal” rather than making your file bigger.
Is it really private?
Yes. The compression runs in your browser using the HTML5 canvas. Nothing is sent to a server, so there is nothing to store, leak or delete afterwards.
